Hail Storms and Vehicle Damage

Oklahoma, like many other states, sees its fair share of hail storms during the year. While most are minor passing storms, others can wreak havoc, with hail the size of golf balls raining down. Avoiding damage in such a storm can be difficult, but when driving, there are some precautions you should take. One buffer you may wish to consider is taking out comprehensive coverage under your Oklahoma auto insurance policy. This can help cover the cost of repairs or replacement should your vehicle be damaged.
When driving, if you find yourself confronted by a hail storm it is best advised to try and pull over in a safe place. Continuing to drive through the storm may be more dangerous as there is a risk that your windscreen might be shattered or broken by the hail. A hail storm can also reduce visibility to the point where it is dangerous to continue. In severe storms if you are unable to pull into shelter, it is sometimes advised that you lie down over the seat and try and cover yourself to avoid injury in case of shattering glass. Be wary of pulling over into ditches as the accompanying rain may cause water levels to be raised in lower lying areas.
Once the storm has passed, you can then assess any damage to your vehicle. You’re likely to be glad you opted for comprehensive coverage under your Oklahoma auto insurance policy if your vehicle is damaged by hail.
