Identity Theft
Prevent Identity Theft from Happening to You
If you’re anything like me, you think that identity theft could never happen to you. But the sad truth is it can. There is no discrimination against people when it comes to identity theft, it can happen to anyone. Even to people like us to who live in a small town in Oklahoma.
In our upcoming September RCI Oklahoma Insurance Newsletter, we have an article about ways we can all protect ourselves. But these are the tips we hear all the time. What about suggestions that not many people know about? Did you know that your Medicare card, health insurance ID, or possibly other membership cards could have your social security number somewhere on the card?
We all know we’re not supposed to carry around our social security card, and yet we can forget to check our other cards in our wallets. Scratch it out or cover it with a permanent marker.
And how many times have we allowed someone to leave our site with our debit or credit card? It happens all the time. This is a perfect opportunity for someone to write down your card numbers and ruin your credit history. And you would never know it until your money was gone.
So check your credit report regularly. You can check it on-line at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228. You don’t have to be a victim of Identity Theft.
